Summer is in full swing, so that means it’s time to throw a backyard party for all of your friends and family. Not only is it a great way to hang out with all of your favourite people, but it’ll also allow you to enjoy the warm summer weather – if you have it!
This is a guest post in collaboration with Alycia Coloma.
While hosting a party may seem like a time-consuming task, there are a few ways to make it as fun and stress-free as possible. Trust us, it’ll be more than worth it. Continue reading for seven tips to help you throw an amazing backyard party that’ll be remembered for years to come.
1. Make a plan for your backyard party
Don’t throw a party without making a thorough plan first. The last thing you want to do is go in blind and unprepared. That said, start by deciding a date and time for your event. Ideally, you want to pick a day when the weather is bright and beautiful. Then create a guest list, plan your menu, and start ordering whatever you may need far in advance. For instance, if you’re trying to order a gift basket delivery, make sure it’ll arrive on time.
Include decorations in your strategy for a backyard party because they are essential to establishing the mood. Choose the type of exterior decorations you’ll purchase. If you have plenty of time, you could DIY your decorations or choose to have custom outdoor decorations produced. Due to their flexibility in setting up, moving, and only taking a few seconds to inflate, inflatables are excellent choices for outdoor locations. 2. Send out invitations to your bash
Whether you’re having a formal or informal backyard party, it’s important to properly invite your guests. You can do this by sending them an invitation via email or by snail mail. You can also give your guests a call or send them a quick text message.
Regardless of what you choose, your guests will appreciate you letting them know the details of the event ahead of time. Before sending out your invitations, make sure to double check them and verify that they have the correct address, date, and time. Consider also adding an RSVP line to help you prepare for your party better.
3. Provide enough seating for everyone
It’s important to have enough seating for everyone on your guest lists. It’s a good idea to have a few extra chairs as well in case there are any plus ones. Don’t be afraid to have fun with your seating either. You can have all sorts of seating at your backyard party, including lawn chairs, folding chairs, and even luxury patio chairs. Or what about letting your guests have fun in a hammock? There are some great ones at the hammock shop.
4. Keep the bugs away from your guests
Ensure your guests are comfortable by keeping summertime bugs away. If flying pests, such as mosquitos and flies, are annoying your guests, they may decide to leave your party early. Prevent this by removing any standing water, using citronella candles, placing fans near seating areas, and having bug spray or a tool to treat bug bites readily available for guests to use. There are also special outdoor canopies that include a breathable mesh to keep out mosquitos and flies.
5. Curate a special playlist for your backyard party
Set the mood for the night by specifically creating a playlist for the event. You can ask guests to provide music recommendations, so there’s something for everyone. If you don’t own quality speakers, you may have to invest in some or ask a friend if you can borrow theirs to save money. Make sure to also check the sound ordinances in your neighbourhood to prevent your party from getting shut down too early.
6. Prepare your backyard
A day before the party, prepare your backyard by mowing the lawn, trimming shrubs, removing overgrown weeds, tending to your garden, and wiping down any outdoor furniture that will be used. If you’re not up for the task, you can hire a professional gardener to take care of mowing and trimming for you. It’s best to do this all the day before, so you’re not rushing on the day of the event.
7. Have fun at your backyard party!
The most important thing to do is to have fun at your party and enjoy the company of your loved ones. Laugh, eat, play, and smile alongside everyone while making sure that they’re taken care of.
With the seven tips above, you’ll ensure your guests enjoy themselves at your party and host an event that occurs with little-to-no hiccups. Now go on and throw the best backyard party of the summer!
