I’m Helen Copson. I’m a stay at home mum of three very small boys in Devon, and you may have noticed I like to say it how it is.
Life got a little bit hectic in June 2017 when I had twins just two days before my toddler’s second birthday. Three under three and all boys – think that’s known as Sod’s Law, obviously I wanted at least one girl.
Twins, Tantrums and Cold Coffee is a blog about my life with the boys and how ridiculous it can be some days dealing with such young children – often on my own as my husband works away regularly.
There’s no sugar-coating it, as much as I love them dearly, it is hard work, and drives me to swear under my breath A LOT. Usually when I’m changing one twin’s shitty nappy, the eldest is shouting for me to inspect his latest Lego creation, and I realise the other twin is walking precariously along the dining table.
What this blog is NOT about is how to occupy a toddler with craft activities on a rainy afternoon, tips on how to get that potato print just perfect, and 10 reasons I love to co-sleep. This is not me. Not me at all. (I am not a crafter).
But if you like reality, a bit of swearing, a lot of sarcasm, and above all honesty, then maybe you’ll enjoy what you read. If I’m anything at all, I’d like to think I’m relatable – I’ve not met a mum yet who hasn’t used screentime to get stuff done or even drink their coffee vaguely warm. So you’re definitely not alone if your life resembles mine.
I have a background in journalism, having spent nearly 15 years as a reporter and deputy news editor at the Plymouth Herald newspaper and still write for them as a columnist.
I have also been travel writing for over 10 years. Sadly the days of adult only five star trips to Bangkok and Barcelona have made way for family breaks to Butlins and Bluestone, but I still love reviewing holiday destinations and days out, albeit it they’re not quite so relaxing anymore.
Oh and I won the Britmums Brilliance in Blogging 2018 ‘Fresh Voice’ Award which was kind of cool after only blogging for 10 months. And I also won the ‘Readers’ Choice’ category in the 2019 awards too, which I was even more shocked about!
If you’re like me and are a little bit addicted to social media, you can find me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. And why not join my Facebook group Twins, Tantrums and Cold Coffee – Shits and Giggles Parenting Group where you can share your kids-related shenanigans too.
So there you have it. Welcome to my sweary, sarcastic, and honest account of life with twins and a preschooler. Hope you enjoy it.
(Sorry about the swearing. They drive me to it…)
