3 Yorkshire Attractions Kids Will Actually Talk About Afterwards

Planning a family trip that keeps both children and adults happy is a lot more complicated than it seems. Ultimately, finding the right balance between destinations that are great for sightseeing but don’t leave the kids feeling bored and those that offer a lot of entertainment but lack variety for adults is tricky. But Yorkshire manages to strike the perfect balance between historic landmarks and hands-on attractions for the whole family.

This is a collaborative post

Plus, Yorkshire is also the best spot for quality time together that doesn’t require traveling much between activities, which makes it perfect for every kind of day out.

Exploring History at Fountains Abbey

One of the most memorable family attractions in Yorkshire is Fountains Abbey. It’s easy to see why. This is one of the largest monastic ruins in England, and it gives the children the chance to experience history in a way that is exciting and immersive.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for the scale of the abbey and the surrounding areas. For younger children, exploring through the stone ruins can truly feel like walking straight inside a fantasy storybook.

Besides, there are plenty of easy walking routes and wildlife spotting activities in the grounds around. Studley Royal Water Garden is home to wild deers as well as rich birdlife. You may even spot woodpeckers and goldfinches!

Discovering Whistlestop Valley

Whistlestop Valley used to be called Kirklees Light Railway, so you may have heard of it under its previous name. Thi sis the perfect attraction for train lovers.

For many younger children, miniature railways are a magical place. The small steam train rides through the Yorkshire countryside and has won the heart of many primary school children and toddlers. It’s simple but highly effective.

There are also indoor activity areas, playgrounds, and seasonal themed events, so it’s worth checking what’s on when you’re planning a trip. They are going to have Thomas the Tank Engine on specific dates throughout the summer and autumn seasons. This July, the park also runs a dinosaur experience along with a train ride. In short, there is definitely something for everyone!

Building at Diggerland Yorkshire

What child doesn’t get obsessed with construction vehicles? If yours is like that, a trip to Diggerland Yorkshire is guaranteed to be a success. It’s not your typical amusement park, as Diggerland allows children and also adults to ride, drive, and operate real construction machinery. Naturally, this is in a safe environment. Bear in mind that children will need to be a minimum height to be allowed there.

This is a very hands-on attraction that instantly is a hit for many little boys! Just imagine the stories later on at school!

And after spending a few hours on diggers and dumpers, it’s probably time for some much-deserved food. Only a short way outside of Diggerland, you’d find a yummy Italian restaurant in Castleford with a normal menu and a kids’ menu, so there is something for a whole family. It’s just by the Xscape attraction too, which is an address to mark down if you are travelling with older kids.

In conclusion, Yorkshire works extremely well for families. You can spend a full day exploring a UNESCO site in the morning and riding a construction vehicle in the afternoon. There’s plenty of diversity and entertainment for everyone, which makes it an unforgettable family experience.
