Summer is one of the most wonderful seasons of the year to decorate around the house because of the bright yellows, fresh whites and vibrant blues that you can use. It’s also a great time to open up your living spaces and make the most of the longer days and warmer weather. So, if you’re ready to embrace garden gatherings and sunny afternoons, take a look at these tips on how to prepare your home for summer.

– Henry James
Invest in lighter curtains
It’s no secret that the weather is getting warmer, so those thick curtains that block out light and trap heat simply won’t do. Pack them away for a while and replace them with lighter, airy made to measure curtains. Opt for fresh colours to give the illusion of a brighter room. Light shades can help a space feel cooler and more open during the summer months. If you’re not able to switch up the colour scheme, why not invest in some blinds to help control the sunlight and keep rooms comfortable during the hottest parts of the day?
Let the fresh air in
During the colder months, keeping your home sealed up helps retain heat. However, summer is the perfect time to make the most of fresh air flowing through your home. Open windows when temperatures allow and check that they are all working properly. You should also inspect your roof and loft to make sure everything is in good condition after the winter weather. Sometimes a simple slipped slate on your roof can lead to bigger problems if left untreated and more often than not, a local residential roofing company will be able to fix the issue.
Make the most of your ceiling fans
When the weather heats up, ceiling fans can become one of the most useful features in your home. Make sure your ceiling fans are set to rotate in the correct direction to create a cooling breeze. This simple adjustment can help rooms feel more comfortable without relying solely on air conditioning or opening every window in the house.
Dig out your lamps
Lamps are a wonderful way of adding class to any room as well as creating a welcoming ambience. If your lamps are looking a bit tired, replace the shades with brighter summer colours or even make your own lampshade. Here are some DIY lampshade ideas if you’re not sure what you’re looking for. Why not choose bulbs that create a fresh and inviting glow to complement your new lampshade?
Spruce up your porch
Finally, your porch is the first thing you, or anyone else visiting you, sees when arriving at your home. Giving your home some much needed curb appeal will instantly brighten your mood every time you pull onto the drive. Give the door a fresh lick of paint, varnish your porch entrance, hang some outdoor lights and don’t forget to pick out those pesky weeds before they spread.
So put on your favourite summer outfit, pour yourself a refreshing drink and spruce up your home in time for summer!
