Selling your house and moving on? Here is what you need to do

Have you decided that now is the time to think about selling your house and move on to bigger, better things? You are not alone, a lot of people outgrow their first property. New additions to the household might mean you require a couple more bedrooms, or you could be moving due to work.

This is a collaborative post.

Whatever the reason, before you move you need to make sure that you have a few things in order. This includes having somewhere to move into when you sell your current property. If you are wanting to buy a new home elsewhere this article shows you the opportunities you could have if you looked in different areas.

Now let’s take a look at what needs to be done within your current home before you can think of selling your house and put it on the market.

Declutter your home

The first step is to declutter and get rid of anything that doesn’t ‘belong’. When potential buyers come to look around your property they need to be able to envision their own belongings in your home. This can be impossible if all your stuff is cluttering up the place.

One way to sort out the problem of decluttering is to go to each room and sort your stuff into at least three piles. These should be the items you want to keep, the belongings you want to sell, and the stuff you want to throw out. Selling stuff when you are sorting is a great way to get rid of things that can bring joy and use to others, but also make a bit of extra cash to put towards the move.

Get rid of grime

Once you have decluttered your home it is time to sort out the buildup of dust and dirt. This is inevitable and there are places in your home that are commonly missed during the weekly cleans. Such places include the skirting boards and oven hoods to name a couple.

When you are cleaning your home make sure you pay extra attention to the bathroom and kitchen, ensure there is no black mould around the edges. It can seem like a daunting prospect cleaning the whole house top to bottom but don’t look at it as a whole. If you do that you will scare yourself and worry you won’t do a good job. If you tackle each room one at a time then you will sail through and be far less stressed.

However, feel free to call in a professional cleaning company if you don’t have the time or even patience for a full-on thorough deep clean. They are used to cleaning homes and will make sure the house sparkles and looks brand new when they are done with it. It’s a great thing to do when you’re selling your house.

Fix-it up when selling your house

One final thing to mention when sorting out your house to sell is to carry out all repairs before potential buyers come around. If viewings happen and they notice repairs that need doing it can put them off from buying. Nobody really wants to move into a fixer-upper. If you have a long to-do list of repairs then now is the time to do them.

And if you do not have the time or resources to do a deep clean and declutter of your home, there are methods of getting your house sold no matter what state it is currently in.
