Whether you have recently bought your first home or moved into a new house, taking care of your abode will be a high priority for you. Of course you will want to maintain your home.
This is a guest post in collaboration with Alycia Coloma.
Who can blame you? With the investment and the effort that goes into getting your own place, maintaining it to the best of your ability is hardly an uncommon desire.
While home maintenance is not an obscure topic, it can still be a complex one. This is especially true if you have never managed a house all by yourself. With that being said, learning about this subject is also quite straightforward when you look in the right places.
To help you take care of your house without jumping through hoops, here’s how to maintain your home in 5 easy steps.
1. Clean Your Floors Regularly
No matter if you are designing a child’s bedroom or an adult’s study, floors are one of the most important yet often overlooked parts of a home. But if you don’t pay attention to their cleanliness, it can leave your floors to suffer from dust, grime, and stains.
That is why it is important that you vacuum or mop your floors at least twice a week. To make sure that your floors keep looking good as new, you can invest in a high quality flooring solution such as floor resin. This can put a protective layer over your floor to make it stand its own against high foot traffic. At the same time, it also makes floor maintenance a breeze.
2. Pay Attention to Your Kitchen
For many families, their kitchen serves as the heart of their home due to its constant utilization every single day. Due to this frequency of usage, you need to invest in kitchen cleaning supplies and pay attention to the maintenance of your kitchen’s cabinets, countertops, and appliances.
Cleaning your stove from the inside out and throwing out rotting food from your fridge can go a long way. You should also pay attention to your garbage disposal, where even running a few ice cubes can keep grime and grease at bay. From setting up a new home to cleaning your existing space, these simple tips can work wonders in many situations.
3. Look Into Bathroom and Plumbing Fixtures
Of all the cleaning tasks at your hand, perhaps nothing seems as daunting as taking care of your bathroom. But with targeted planning and supplies such as a bathroom disinfectant at hand, you can easily breeze through the process. However, you still need a holistic approach to steer clear of being overwhelmed.
In this area, common pressure points include tile grout, hard water stains, and grimy faucets. For tile grout, you may use warm water with natural ingredients such as vinegar or baking soda. With hard water stains, mix water with white vinegar as this can work effectively. For grimy faucets, a solution as simple as water and dish soap can come in handy. Running disinfectant over all surfaces can prevent germs from harboring.
4. Set Major and Minor Financial Goals
Once you have cleaned up your bathroom for potty training twins or taking a relaxing bath yourself, you should pay attention to the areas outside your home. This does not refer to the streets, but your front lawn as well as your backyard. Here, you need to channel your inner gardener and handyman at the same time.
For effective yard keeping, make sure to regularly mow your lawn and pick out any weeds that you can see growing between the grass or pathways. An action as simple as cleaning out dead leaves and debris can also keep your lawn looking as fresh as a rose. If you have a green thumb, you can also try your hand at pruning your shrubs or trees.
5. Don’t Overlook the Roof
Your roof is yet another space outside your home that needs your attention from time to time. This is especially true if you have been living through a stormy season, where debris could be camping out on your roof as unwelcome guests. If you don’t pay attention to it, it can cause excessive damage to your roof.
You should also look into cleaning your gutters of debris, cobwebs, and moss, as this action can prevent breakage, blockage, and sinkage in the system. By investing in supplies such as a high reach brush set, you can easily achieve these basic goals of roof maintenance. This helps you stay away from massive repair costs.
By looking into these steps, you can make your home look its best on a consistent basis. When you mix these activities with professional touch ups and maintenance every few months, you can ensure to maintain your home in an ideal manner.
